
CKD is increasing in prevalence – and at an alarming rate. According to the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study, CKD deaths increased by 41.5% from 1990 to 2017. In 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) ranked CKD as the 10th leading cause of death. It is expected to become the 5th leading cause of life lost by 2040.Limited access and affordability of dialysis will be the key reasons for the increased cause of loss of life.
